When I’m looking in a few years I bet these will be a really good deal. Now that I’m no longer requiring a manual for my next car these become very interesting. They are really the only modern land yacht wagon and can be had with the 3.5l turbo cranking out 365hp and can be had with AWD.

The tall wagon that Ford calls an SUV? To be honest I thought they canceled the flex. I mean the sales alone make me question why it’s still being made. 20k a year is what other 3 row suvs do in a month.

We’ll see where I am in life when it comes time to buy my next car. I might also drop the manual requirement; probably would have to be a car where a manual wasn’t an option for me to be content though. Right now that list is 335d, C63 AMG, Alfa Romeo G iulia.

Clearly you aren ’t on the Woodward FB page......
Some tool with a base Flex was rolling around beating on “V6 Hellcats” and Hellcats that didn’t know he was racing. Started a whole meme and some good laughs.

When we did our massive batch of test drives 4-5 years ago, I came out of it liking the AWD turbo model ok, but I wasn’t nearly as blown away as I had hoped to be compared to comparable power numb ers in other vehicles (eg Hemi Durango) .
In hindsight, I might have picked it over the Odyssey (which we bought) or Durango but I still don’t think so. I’m in love with the idea , but not the execution. It just couldn’t do minivan things as well as a van proper, but I liked that it sat down lower. That hood was an impediment. I could park a Mini Cooper on it with room to spare — all for a transverse engine.
This particular post-facelift one looks better than the ~2013-14 models we tried out, but I’m not sure if it’s just cosmetic. They’re still semi-unique, in that I only see 3-5 a day. Not a unicorn, but still a bold choice.
$0.02, get ‘em before they’re all gone!

It would be an awesome SEMA build to take one of these, g ut it, and put in the driveline from the GT500.

The hood is gigantic for a transverse engine, if only they had done it properly and made the it longitudinally mounted with RWD biased drivetrain . *drool*
My only issue with these is my wife thinks they are butt ugly...she hates boxy cars. I’m thinking a test drive to show how much more functional it is might sway her, but we’ll see.

They did cancel it, after 2019 it’s gone. I’d be buying used anyways. I honestly don’t know what Ford is doing with their lineup in general besides “MOAR TRUCKS!!!!”

All great choices and all cars I’d only own with a warranty lol.
My list also includes the Stinger, CTS V-sport, SS, and maybe the new Outback XT (we’ll see once it arrives). And while I love the Jaguar XF sportbrake, I don’t know I’m ready to deal with Jaaag ownership.

That would be fantastic!
This thing would probably be at the top of my list had it been designed with a longitudinally mounted engine with RWD bias drivetrain.

Same here, wife hates the look ! I loved the retro approach and “IDGAF” attitude of the designers, which is very rare from a mass market company.
My response is usually “When you’re driving, you don’t actually have to look at it” but that didn’t earn me any points.
Good luck there. *

The warranty on the M3 has been expired for 4 years, too bad it was time limited because it still hasn’t exceeded 50k miles.
I test drove a Sportbrake, it was quite nice and it came with something like a 7 year 72k warranty. For the money, I’d rather have something else though.

They are rather expensive...though that luxury car depreciation+wagon depreciation might make it very palatable in the near future. And if it still has a warranty for a few years...hmmm. I didn’t realize they had that long of a warranty.

They are nice, my father in law was considering one to replace his old Ford Excursion now that his kids grew up and he didn’t need a big SUV anymore. Ultimately he decided they didn’t need an SUV at all and bought a Jetta. I still really like the Flex. I think they look awesome, I like the interior and it rides like a big Taurus because that’s what it is.
I’ll probably never buy one myself because unless several unexpected children pop up we’ll never need a 3 row. Altho after a brief discussion with my wife yesterday I think the XC40 is a strong contender for next HFV wife car.

While we won’t need to 3rd row for a few years still, it would be nice to have it for when we do need it.

I was looking at the non turbo 2014s when we were 7 passenger car shopping. I wanted one, but the wife hated the looks. The interior felt ultra cheap compared to that of the pathfinder SL we bought

I recently spoke to a guy with a 2018 V60 Polestar whose previous car was the Sportbrake. He said the Sportbrake was not very entertaining to drive and not nearly as capable a driver as the Polestar. Just food for thought. Seems like it would be hard to go wrong with either one.

The missus loves big wagons (why do you think I’m marrying her?!). Her next car once the 200 croaks any day now will be a Flex. She likes it more than I do.
PS-wrote this earlier in the year about the base engine.

My wife has a Yukon, she has a hatred of minivans and boxy vehicles...though likes more rounded wagons for some reason.
I think I’ll be able to convince her though since it won’t be her vehicle anyways.

Well they knew they were screwing over small car owners since 2010, so I guess stick to what you know? SUVs and trucks?

Well atleast they have the F150
And the flex is on the same platform as the explorer

I’m a big fan of the Flex. My parents own one, and had a Lincoln MKT prior. The Lincoln had the 3.5 ecoboost, and it was a hell of an engine. It was legitimately quick. The Flex has the N/A V6, which isn’t nearly as quick, but is still ample and never feels under powered.
My dad loves the thing. He also owns a current gen F-150, which while he also enjoys, he mostly keeps to tow the boat. If/when he sells the boat, he’s selling the F-150 and keep the Flex. He likes to point out that the boxiness of the Flex provides it so much interior room, very similar to full size trucks. The windows do feel far away from you, and the roofline is high, so it is very roomy. Theirs have the captain chairs in the back, and all seats (including 3rd row) are comfortable. The radar cruise control is among the best I’ve ever used as well. It’s tuned just right to follow the way you want, and when you need to change lanes because someone is going slower in your lane, it instantly begins to accelerate and feels very natural. Some other cars I’ve driven have a hesitation or wait until you’re fully in the next lane before they accelerate, and/or accelerate very slowly. Just another positive to point out on the Flex.

After driving a 2017 Taurus SEL , I don’t think saying it rides like a big Taurus is a good thing. We made it a block and brought it back, it was a terrible car in every metric.

The sportbrake to me just seemed like a very refined luxury car. It didn’t feel fast or that agile. It was dead quiet inside though.

I have only sat in one, but it was a t a car show. It’s a beautiful car with a much nicer interior than the Polestar. I have driven one of those before and it is fun as hell to drive. I am a Volvo fanboy though, so that certainly has something to do with it.

It had 22k and was a Ford certified vehicle?
It had obnoxious road noise, worse than 2000s GM plastic everywhere, terribly hard seats, rough ride while somehow managing to be wallowy.
I was appalled at how terrible it was!
